While the Iowa caucuses, which I've been following since that damn stupid Ames straw poll this summer, were kind of a anti-climatic (it was Romey after all) this truly profound article by the Atlantic's Ta-Nehisi Coates on that subject should be read to the end by anyone interested in politics or good writing.

Brilliant. I am glad you posted this. Probably the most concise article yet exposing the myth of Ron Paul. Let's hope enough people read it. Tangentially, I am rather fed up with reading Canadians' comments on CBC forums defending Ron Paul as the second-coming. He's different alright - but so were a lot of nefarious political personages from the 20th and 21st centuries - ones whose initial contrast belied their complete lack of humanity, balance or impartiality - not to mention savage, primitive blood lust. How far did that get us?
ReplyDeleteAgain, thanks for posting this. An excellent example of how this blog rises above so many others. It ain't all about head-banging...
Hey Jeffen
ReplyDeleteI had a subscription to The Atlantic for many years until that creepy Canadian fascist Mark Steyn annoyed me for the last time.Maybe I will reconsider a new subscription.

There are many Ron Paul positions that I would like to embrace, but he reminds me of Ross Perot. He wants to change things that desperately need changing. Things that the mainstream candidates will never address because they would lose the lobbyists. Yet below that excellent platform is a level of paranoia, secrecy and denial.
ReplyDeleteI truly wish that we could have a strong independent candidate in every election but once again we're stuck between a rock & a hard place.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback and for the great MRML slogan for the new year "It ain't all about head-banging... "
