In honour of his new posthumous album, we've been celebrating the life and legacy of Jeff Hyman (a.k.a. Joey Ramone - more HERE). Yesterday, we mentioned an unheralded duet between Blondie's Deborah Harry and Joey Ramone and today we have a fine-sounding live set that features both of those CBGB's vets. Debbie's part of the set, is pretty aggressive featuring, amongst the Blondie tracks, covers of The Damned's "New Rose" and Suicidal Tendencies' "Institutionalized" (yeah, you read that right!) Then Debbie brings out Joey for three storming tracks, including two Ramones classic and the then-recent duet between the two, "Go Lil Camaro Go".

ReplyDeleteIt was an AIDS benefit called "Where the Rubber Meets the Road". In addition to Blondie (as Tiger Bomb) and the Ramones, they also had Phillip Glass, Laurie Anderson, Husker Du, and William Burroughs doing a reading from "The Naked Lunch". What an incredible show, I'll always remember that.
Sadly, can't comment much as the link is dead, but would have sold my soul to hear it. These are 2 great icons from the NYC CBGB's Punk daze (did I spell days right) and as a Montrealer escaping the mandatory French Insurrection in La Belle Province, I popped down to NYC in the 8 hr trip to become the next Andy Warro! There was a guy there already with a diff spelling fouling up my plans to conquer the big apple, so finally headed back up to Toronto, but not before a year and a half in NYC. Something at the ripe age of 20 I'll remember for the rest of my life. As Rapidshare is history, sadly so is this link, but as part of history, would love to see it living here again, if not for Joey, then in honour of Blondie's 40th Anniversary this year! Historic moments like this should never disappear into oblivion
