Joey Ramone & The Godchildren of Soul: Rockaway Beach

The Godchildren of Soul were a a short-lived (?) aggregation that recorded one album with assistance from all sorts of artists from The Klezmatics, to Sam Moore to The Sugarhill Gang to a team-up of Joey Ramone (more HERE) and former former Chairman of the Board leader, General Johnson. The results are a little synthetic (everything about this record screams 1991) but very fun.

Readers,
Two questions:
Whaddya think of Joey and the General?
Do ya wanna hear STILL EVEN MORE Joey rarities?
That's what the COMMENTS section is for.

  2. this '1991' is sounding like the ugliest part of the 80's. When the talking heads, cure, xtc an so forth started to look at the plastic drums and bass with k-mart synthesizers music. The funny thing is that the original 'rockaway beach' place was really... hurting. The irony of the lyrics seems deeper with this video insomnia MTV trip item.

    1. All fair. I think of 1991 as the true end of the 80's. This seems to be a product of the last gasp of the 80's sensibility.

  5. Haven't listened to this yet, so can't answer the first question.

Second question: Always want STILL EVEN MORE Joey rarities.

Today's fun event: At today's street party in my town, a group of ten year olds ("Broken Records") played Blitzkrieg Bop.

  7. Rockaway Beach as Beach Music! I like it. The video is silly but fun. Thanks for the link. Do you have the album these songs are from? If so I'd really like to hear the song Soulfingertips. Thanks. And any Joey rarities would always be good.

  8. General Johnson's song with the Showmen, "It Will Stand," is the theme song for my Old Wave Show, weekly on Sundays 15:00-18:00 Eastern Time at wcniradio.org.

It figures that Johnson and Joey would get together; NOBODY loved rock and roll more than Joey!
