The Godchildren of Soul were a a short-lived (?) aggregation that recorded one album with assistance from all sorts of artists from The Klezmatics, to Sam Moore to The Sugarhill Gang to a team-up of Joey Ramone (more HERE) and former former Chairman of the Board leader, General Johnson. The results are a little synthetic (everything about this record screams 1991) but very fun.

this '1991' is sounding like the ugliest part of the 80's. When the talking heads, cure, xtc an so forth started to look at the plastic drums and bass with k-mart synthesizers music. The funny thing is that the original 'rockaway beach' place was really... hurting. The irony of the lyrics seems deeper with this video insomnia MTV trip item.
ReplyDeleteAll fair. I think of 1991 as the true end of the 80's. This seems to be a product of the last gasp of the 80's sensibility.
