Ramones: Live at Arturo Vega's Loft, 1975

If you like your Ramones (more HERE) primitive (and who doesn't, really?) then this piece of history is for you. The sound is dirty as hell but it's still amazing that this not only exists but how how clearly it demonstrates the band's focus well before the recording of the first album.

The fact that this was filmed says that a lot of people, artistic director Arturo Vega not least among them, knew that something earth-shaking was afoot in NYC.

  2. What to make of it? History, that's all. The lyrics, the look, the rawness, the tempo -- this is the template. It'd be a wondrous thing to see in 1977, but check that date. This is the Big Bang, on film. Long live The Ramones!

  5. That is amazing. I am astonished that at that early date they had already "refined" their sound and image to such an extent. When I first heard 'em, I thought they were a joke (my mistake). Now I love 'em.

  8. Learn all about the Ramones in the book;
    “ON THE ROAD WITH THE RAMONES”.
    Throughout the remarkable twenty-two-year career of the Ramones the seminal punk rock band, Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famers and Recording Academy Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winners Monte A. Melnick saw it all. He was the band’s tour manager from their 1974 CBGB debut to their final show in 1996. Now, in this NEW UPDATED EDITION he tells his story. Full of insider perspectives and exclusive interviews and packed with over 250 personal color photos and images; this is a must-have for all fans of the Ramones.

    1. I'm usually against people adverting in the comments, but any friend of the Ramones (and Monte was one of the most loyal) is welcome to plug whatever, wherever they want.
      I do have to read this book...
