Y'know The Undertones' (more
here) song-writing never slipped but by their final album,
1983's The Sin of Pride, internal divisions, overly-fussy production and a tepid musical climate had taken their toll. On this BBC live concert you get a chance to hear some of the original band's last materiel stripped of that eighties sonic goo.
It's certainly not Teenage Kicks but that doesn't mean you can't hold it tight.
Let us know what you think about the late period Undertones in the COMMENTS!Speaking of the COMMENTS section, that's where you'll find the link for BBC Concert,1983

One of those bands that I miss from that era. I even liked Sin of Pride as it seemed like an attempt to push beyond a certain tag. Thanks for offering these little glimpses into the past.
ReplyDeleteMuchas gracias
ReplyDeleteThank you very much from Valencia, Spain.
I'v never heard an Undertones concert from the 'Sin of Pride' period - looking forward to it. 'Sin of Pride', though admittedly not consistent, still has a couple of great songs - for instance the title song, Love parade, Love Before Romance.
ReplyDeleteI didn't much like Feargal Sharkey's solo stuff (apart from 'Never Never' by The Assembly, which he sang); however, That Petrol Emotion, the next band the O'Neill brothers were in, is highly recommended.
im really addicted to your blog
ReplyDeletei think a french magazine(inrockuptibles) gave a free "rarities" cd from the undertones some years ago like demos etc
maybe i still got it somewhere
The Undertones. The world's best mod band to never know they were a mod band. The Undertones.
ReplyDeleteStop it! my memory card is filling up!This is another I had on audio tape-I remember it being a simultaneous broadcast on tv and radio but not having a video recorder way back then!
