The Stranglers - Live at the Hope & Anchor

This is the entire Stranglers set from the opening night at the Hope & Anchor's Front Row Festival (more here) back in 1977 . This loud, raw, gritty, ugly and foul-mouthed recording wasn't released till 1992 but then fell out-of-print and now fetches peachy money on eBay.

  1. Thanks for sharing this - it's a classic recording of the band doing what they did best, getting pissed and enjoying themselves immensely - just like the rest of us who were at the gig... it was one hell of a session. :-)

    Happy memories...

  2. another thanks for this. I wan't there myself despite having seen them many times in '77 & '78, sounds like everyones enjoyed themselves in Hopes Cellar that night.
Anyone know if any of the other shows recorded for the front line festival ever got released aport from on the above mentioned compilation. The only ones sounds more than tempting.

It must have been a hell of a show - feel free to share any of those happy memories with us, gory details are okay!

I've never see the Stranglers but I'd take any chance now, even on the new version of the band. I haven't heard about any other full sets from the festival but yeah live prime-era Only Ones would interest a lot of people including me.
