The Police: Live in Berkley (1979)

I unashamedly own all of The Police's albums but remain convinced that their first three years, 1978-1980, represent their finest attempt to take jazzy-prog rock and reggae-punk and make it into pure pop. It likely irritated fans of the genres that they pillaged but it is a mix unattempted before or since.

So here to show off a band on their way to the summit, is crisp bootleg of an FM broadcast from Berkley in 1979. Enjoy!

  2. Thanks for this one. I think that their best material came on the first few records and I would love to have caught them live during that period but alas it was never to be. Consequently, this will have to suffice. Thanks again!

  3. It's all about that first album for me. The band would get alot more respect from hipster/critic/assholes if they would have broke up or died in a planecrash right after the first one. It's fucking perfect.

Like you I have to make up for the fact that I never saw the Police in their prime with these cool bootlegs.

I'm with you on The Police being a "first one/best one" band but those 2nd and 3rd albums are damn close to as good.

I'm so glad they kept at Fallout even as they got bigger.
