Two radio broadcasts from the brief life of OP IVY.
Speaking of "Sound System" (see above) there are many who claim it's Operation Ivy's emblematic song (with Tim "Lint" Armstrong's vocals dominating it is certainly more Rancid-like). Others, Like Green Day, would claim it's "Knowledge" that is their defining moment. So MRML readers, it's time to weigh in with some more incisive comments as to, "Which is the defining OP IVY song and why?"

PLEASE GIVE US YOU CHOICE FOR DEFINING OP IVY SONG. (and if you've come this far down the rabbit hole there's a pretty good chance you have an opinion...)

Sound System is more emblematic, but my favorite tunes are Hoboken and I Got No. Blasts of brevity, I guess. Really looking forward to hearing this.
ReplyDeleteFor better or worse, anyone who was there would have to insist on 'Hedgecore'.
ReplyDeleteReally hard to say the defining song of a band with 2 singers and two styles. I was always a fan of The Crowd. Unity, Sound System, and Knowledge seem to be the fan favorites. Check out my blog when you get a chance http://patriotsofthewasteland.blogspot.com/ I may have some stuff you'll like.
ReplyDeletePeace,

You know I was very impressed with how wise Op IVY were in selecting songs to release. A lot of what wasn't released would suggest that they were kinda mediocre, which of course wasn't true. I thought the songs from the Plea For Peace 7" were the best of the bunch.

Sound System, and thanks for the download.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought that Sound System and Knowledge were the two sides of the coin; the two songs you needed to hear to sum up Op Ivy. Who knew i was being so obvious? I guess i can't pick just one - both the ska and the punk are equally important (to me, anyway).
ReplyDeleteBut maybe that's just a cop out... Sorry.
THE BEST SONG IS,"OFFICER",CUZ THE PIGS SUCK,AND MUST DIE!
ReplyDeletehey 1 more thing . could you add my blog to your blogroll?ipost stuff you can't find anywhere else in the world! come see at:

Too many choices, I know, I know. Love what you're doing at the blog and as a word of advice (possibly repeated) you NEED a blog roll - it's how this little corner of the universe communicates - let me know when you get it done and I'll gladly add you to mine.
Chris
Yeah I eagerly bough all the bootlegs when they came out and always discovered that the great songs were already on the album. Now I like listening to these songs just to see how they got to where they did.

Amen, and you're welcome.

Always liked that one.
(I added you to the blog roll!)

Posted that one as the video for today's post!
Absolutely love OpIvy & have (had) a bunch of this already (and Rancid, Big Rig, Common Rider, Downfall, Dancehall Crashers, Punk Side Story).
ReplyDeleteNever really heard their equal (and I HATE Sublime). I'd vote for sound system as the iconic song, but love Hoboken too.
The reason I wanted to comment was Jaded - when I was a kid it was one of the few OpIvy songs I didn't like that well. Having gotten older (and "left the scene"), I'm amazed at how great a comment on the punk scene it was.

ReplyDelete"Jaded" hit me right away because I was already twenty by the time I heard it! But I also followed all the different permutations of the band (thanks for hinting at Schlong, who I saw play an AMAZING show in the early 90's).
