The Muffs: Real Time Live

I fell hard for The Muffs back in 1993. It wasn't a band member-specific obsession(though Kim Shattuck, could've been the besotting one). No it was all about the sound, which was was rife with pop-punk melodies, garage-rock riffs, lyrics that wrung genuine emotion from a plain-spoken simplicity and that ever-present Shattuck shriek of "WOHW!"

This live show at Lee's Palace in Toronto (recorded for the CBC show, Real Time) shows the band near the peak of their power circa 1995.

  6. Attention all MRML readers and commentors: Please write a 500 word essay on why The Muffs self titled debut is the greatest pop punk album ever realeased. If you do not agree with this completely scientifically verifiable claim please give your own choice and the reasons why you feel as such so I can snort at them in derision as I pogo to "Rock & Roll Girls".

Who will dare take on this fearsome task?
(But hey, did you have to chose a non-album cover for your pogo tune?)

  9. No essay assignments please, I'm not in high school anymore.
I'll just listen to 'Baby go round' and 'Eye to eye' from the Muffs' first album instead...

  13. My favorite Muffs album is actually "Hamburger," the B-sides and rarities compilation. It was also my introduction to the Muffs, so that might have something to do with it.

Also, all this Muff-talk is making me want to listen to some Gizmos!

    Muff-Divin' in the U.S.A.!!!!!

    Thanks jeffen!

  15. I was in a garage band when I discovered the Muffs and suddenly I started focusing on song craft. Some of their songs are simple punk progressions but a lot have 5 or six chord runs. Search and Destroy!
