ReplyDeleteJoe Strummer was the first singer/songwriter who made me really listen to the lyrics of songs.
ReplyDeleteAnd not just because 'Jail Guitar Doors' sounded like 'Jelly Guitar Rolls' on the taped, taped-from-L.P. tape I first heard the Clash I love. In my defense, I thought it had something to do with a blues singer like Jelly Roll Morton or someone like that...
Many thanks for a great post.
ReplyDeleteJoe's spirit lives on and keeps inspiring.
Thank you, love ocean of dreams!

Welcome, from Winnipeg, Canada.
Bio
That song's subject matter is already petty deeply historical but if they'd added a verse about Jelly Roll Morton that woulda been amazing.
And yeah I have never listened to lyrics quite the way I did to Strummers'
