Was there a volume two of this series? Who the hell knows but the one extant volume is hella rad. (I have always kinda wanted to use the word extant in a sentence that contained the phrase hella rad).
As the song list superimposed over the crapper proves, this is pretty heavily mod/power-pop based compilation. There's little deeply obscure here but the set, with jagged blasts of pop by The Jags, The Chords, The Strangeways, The Letters, The Monroes - too many best tracks to mention - just flows like fresh flesh wound.

Just downloading this now, but I can't imagine anything supplanting "Back of My Hand" as my favorite. One of my all time fave songs, any genre...
ReplyDeleteThanks for this!
about 8 of these I don't know... so maybe one of those is my new favorite.... otherwise maybe moondogs, monroes or vapaors & of course jags
ReplyDeletenice comp - thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteComplicated Girl!
ReplyDeleteThanx for this, cracker of a comp, Vapours and Merton parkas stand out for me
ReplyDeleteThanks, looks pretty cool. Interestingly, the cover features The Cortinas, but they're not on the disc... what's up with that? Good picture, though, and he certainly looks cooler than any of The Chords...
ReplyDeleteAw! All my favourites and EVEN more! Thank you once again, Jeffen! :D
ReplyDeleteOhes and my favourites? Protex, The Letters and the Chords. Fo sho.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff reminds me of being 14/15 again. Saw the Moondogs supporting the Undertones in 1980 so they are a big favourite
ReplyDeleteLove your site. A truly great spectrum for different musicl taste.
ReplyDeletemany greats,but my fave is "I Apologize"by Teenage Filmstars,a really nice chorus...great comp,thanks!
ReplyDeleteRecognize about 1/3 by name, will probably add another 1/4 by sound once I download.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to beat "Back Of My Hand" as others noted. Just looking at the list, I really like "Got to Have Pop" -- if for no other reason than I am now "Pop" in my family and they have to have me (I hope).
Ace K.
P.S. Have not forgotten about an item I hope to get to you. Two more weeks of work then Xmas break and I might get it together then.
Thanks for this one - some cracking bands on it.
ReplyDeleteFantastic collection. Thanks so much for making it available.
ReplyDeleteDr. Hank: I think this is a bootleg ed. of a 1980 LP (Polydor 3192603) with only the first 12 songs (I have it!). And you know bootleggers are not too careful with their work... Great blog!!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid my answer was too fast. My 1980 LP just has the same title and the same first song (that's because I got wrong). Sorry and cheers to your blog!!
ReplyDeleteEric
ReplyDeleteYup BOMH is my #1 too.

"Protex, The Letters and the Chords" - you're taste is, as always, exquisite. I may have to re-post that Protex stuff again...
