1995' s Soulscraper is sometimes called MC4's 'grunge album' due to the thicker, chunkier guitar sound that dominates songs like "The Dog Lady" but fear not listeners, Wiz's gift for sad-but-strong hooks (check out "Android Dreams") is still there beneath the thick layer of gunk.
So what do you think of the Soulscraper era of the MC4? Let us know in the COMMENTS section (where you'll find the link as well.)

Quite liked where they were going with this album, and to be honest, pissed all over pretty much everything that came across from the States bar Mudhoney, Pond and Tad.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty good - I listened through it all. I really got into songs like The Dog Lady and Superstar, so if I'd had to rate it, it'll be a 7 or 8/10. I heard this one didn't get much love from the fans - if they hadn't of made this album, maybe album sales wouldn't of went down, maybe they would not have to resort to playing in clubs again. That's the reason they split up. Maybe they'd still be together. Who knows - great album and band nonetheless. Thanks for posting this stuff - fantastic band.
ReplyDeleteGreat band who unfortunately lost the plot a bit imho. Always my favourites on that scene and nice guys to boot. Thanks for keeping their memory ( Wiz in particular ) alive

Yeah it's interesting to consider what they would have done if they'd carried on.

"Lost the plot" is a reasonable description of this period.
