What a Nice Green Day

In case the Dookie Demos were still too slick, here's an FM broadcast from before the Big Break-Through!

  2. Not so much slick as repetitive. At the time I was thinking "why are they playing the same songs, just rearranged - AGAIN?". LPs full cloned melodies and East Bay songwriting clichés. I moved on to dancehall at that point; it struck me as comparatively diverse.

I saw Green Day make huge strides as song-writers and performers, which in no way undermines the achievements of Jamaica's modern artists.

  5. My great Green Day epiphany came in and around 1995 when they blew my mind with their live performance on the MTV awards, of all things. I'll always enjoy them, but, sadly, thus far only on a song by song basis. I think it might be the lyrics...

"Basketcase" needs to be covered by Michael Buble.

I remember your voe for J.A.R.. While early reviews of GD's lyrics were pretty negative, I've never heard of that as an argument against their later material.

  9. The song Sometimes I Don't Mind is actually titled C# (Tion) by the band Fifteen from the Swaine's First Bike Ride, I rember them covering this at the Berkley Square around this time.

  11. Do you have the Crimpshrine/Fifteen tribute album Brother Can You Spare A Dime? I've had a time tracking that down.
