The Primitives: Bubbling Up

The Primitives' sole hit, the nigh-on perfect "Crash", overshadowed the buzzingly wonderful debut album Lovely about which no bad word can be spoken. The Primitives, who were on the more pop end of the whole C86 British indie scene of the mid-eighties, sorta sounded like The Shirelles attacking the Jesus and Mary Chain in the Ramones bathroom.

This out-of-print collections of BBC sessions, Bubbling Up, features rawer versions of Tracy Tracy & co.'s best songs from the years 1986 to 1988.

  3. Thanks for this, didn't know this had ever been released. A band I so nearly joined back in 1987 but fate chose to mock me, oh well......

  4. Thanks! I haven't seen this comp before. I really loved their first LP back in the days, but then they just disappeared from my life. Looking forward to meet them again!

  5. I loved 'Lovely' and 'Pure' and I'm loving this post's offerings.

But am I the only one who thought 'Thru the Flowers' was a hit? That video seemed to get a lot of play over here...

  10. YES! I've been looking for this for years with no luck! And now I can finally hear it. I love the rawness of BBC sessions - and they really work on these songs. I love The Primitives.

"Crash" is so different. And that version of "As Tears Go By" is fantastic. I love BBC Sessions. thanks for making my day!
