Lords Of The New Church: BBC Live in Concert (1982)

So lots of readers loved Live at the Spit - 80 downloads already - but it took almost a  week to generate a paltry seven comments (and no, I didn't count the one that appeared five minutes after posting asking where the link was).
Can we do better?

Here's an amazing never-released BBC radio broadcast from 1982 that catches the then-young Lords of the New Church (more HERE) in all it's strutting glory.

So the offer is on the table, sacrifice a few words to the COMMENTS section and we're willing to let forth more lost Lords!

  5. magic number 3 checking in. for some reason in mid 80s I got these guys all mixed up with the cult (gag) and some 80s goth bands so never gave them a chance. didn't really know anything about the dead boys yet. guess I need to give them a chance.

    Thanks!

    1. Yeah, fan-wise, there was some cross-over with the Cult (one of my most hated bands!) but not musically.

  6. Thanks for this! That first Lords album was huge for me. Seemed like everything at the time had either gone faux reggae or synth-dance.

  8. Hello Jeffen & all other music lovers, After years of music blog search and destroy missions it's great to run across something new and I'm not at all surprised it was here that that a new Lords recording surfaces. I went back to check a couple older recordings (including Live@theSpit) the best I have are "Scene of the Crime" and "Reading '86" plus more on another drive I don't have plugged in@ the moment. It's great to see you still plugging away at it and posting vital real R&R so a I applaud you !
If you keep the Lords thread going could you re-up Paralyzed? and if I can find it I've got a live in London '88 w/ Joey Ramone recording I'll send ya. Thanks for all the years of great sanity (music)

I'd be honoured to post any unreleased Lords you've got:

I have "SotC" but not "Reading '86" or "Live in London '88"

P.S. Just for you, Rev, Paralyzed is coming up soon...

  11. Jeffen -

I haven't posted nearly enough, but yours is my favorite blog. And the Lords have always intrigued and entertained me since I first heard them in the mid-80's, but it was only recently when I realized how fucking good they were. No small part of that is due to your efforts, with the Live at the Spit article.

Read a couple o' comments mentioning the Cult. I saw the Cult opening for Billy Idol in the mid-80s, when they decided they would be the second coming of Skynyrd or something (complete with a big Confederate flag behind the drum riser). But, as embarassing as that was, I have to admit I still have a great fondness for "Love."

It came out when the boundaries for 'underground/alternative/progressive/whatever' music were still pretty fluid, and there was something about the hard-rock/psychedelic-embellishments that hit the sweet spot for me. Of course, I thought subsequent records were mostly rubbish, but still...

Anyway, I'm rambling so forgive me... and thanks again for the Lords!

    1. Yeah I know there were different phases of The Cult's career but somehow they're stuck in my mind as that cheese-eating retro-retch fest they gained success as.

Hey glad to get you back into the Lords, that's why we do what we do here!
