V.A. They Shall Not Pass (1981-1982)

Another eighties manifesto from the British musical left, this time in support of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. With just The Mekons crossing-over from Dig: A Tribute to the Great Strike (see HERE), this album shows the depth of talent that was willing to stand up to the British state under Thatcher.

  2. I miss these sounds. This stuff endures for me because the music was as stong as the politics.

Thanks for posting this. I don't know about the U.K., but here it feels like the spirit of protest is gone from the music scene. The music now is totally in earnest, but only on a personal rather than a political level.

  3. I'm probably one of the few who thinks the politics better than the music... Apart from the Redskins, who definitely have both.

  6. More Mekons? Along with the Three Johns?!? I'm happy, very happy...

Of course, i'd be happier if there was nothing to protest about, but then what would i dance to?

  7. I loved this comp...I remember buying it in the early 90's...I think just for the title only being semi-aware of the bands at the time. After it was stolen, I had to await the advent of the music blog to get another copy. Thanks! Brian
