I Am Chimp! S/T EP Available for Free Download

Oooh today I get to act like Brooklyn Vegan and introuduce you to an as-yet unknown band with an as-yet unnamed sound, a band so underground that their three-song demo CD is nigh-on impossible to get and they don't have a web presence of any kind!

I Am Chimp! are a new Plymouth, UK three-piece (Paul Feldon, Gareth Stockwood and Michael Long a.k.a. a certain Longy-time gone blogger) whose sound might be roughly described as "The Fall meets Napalm Death". If you think I'm just trying to be a half-clever bastard with that description, listen to the entire three song S/T EP (1:01 TOTAL!) and be prepared to reassess whatever it was you knew one minute and one second earlier.

MRML readers, give us you review of the I AM Chimp CD in the COMMENTS section (where you'll find the S/T EP link).

Update: see comment number 35 [!] for the NEW LINK!

  2. I'm not sure if this is the best or the worst thing I've ever heard... But it's definitely a thing and I've definitely heard it... Well done, Longy. I think I might be chimp, too!

  3. Monkey fucking business indeed! If Darwin was right and this it what we evolved from then suck my salty black balls! If his theory of natural selection was right too, in a hundred years we will all be Chimp - get me the album, NOW!

  8. This reminds me of the Minutemen and of some incarnations of Wire -- only shorter.

That's very promising in my view, but the EP doesn't provide enough context to indicate whether it derives from talent, precious artsiness, or the extremely rare talented precious artsiness.

Definitely interesting, and worth tracking to see how/whether it develops.

    Cheers,

    Bill

  9. I just want to say a big thanks to Jeff for being kind enough to post this for us and to all the good people who have commented (I must admit we were expecting much more negative comments,if any)

There could well be a Chimps album on the horizon soon. Fellow Chimp Gareth Stockwood is working on some lyrics as I type and we'll meet up with head Chimp Paul Felton when he gets back from a weekend break. I'm not sure how many songs will be on the album but it could be quite a few lol.

Thanks again Jeff/everyone. We are truely touched.

  11. Woohoo!

I recognized this was a Longy post by the photos alone!

But am I the only one who heard the 'I Am Carpet' lyrics as: "It's Viacom, It's Viacom, It's Viacom'?

    Subliminal blogger thing?

  12. Okay, this is too serendiphic not to share:

I Am Chimp! is between Hysteria - 'Behind The Veil EP' and Ian Brown in my iTunes...

...which gets me wondering if we might get to hear Caroline doing some guest vocals on a future Chimp's album?

  13. Hey, awesome commentary one and all, you've inspired the band to kick it up a notch (I recommended a twenty-song, one sided 12" with a chimp etching on the B-side)

  24. Latest exciting news from the Chimp camp. Brand new 6 track EP will be ready in 2 weeks time. This will again be available totally free.

I can reveal track one will be entitled "Music Ruined My Life" which is dedicated one of our favourite blogs :)

    1. Are you writing the "extensive liner-notes" and an essay on the ubiquity of malaise in modern music and how I Am Chimp! forces the listener to challenge their preconceived notions of what music is as well as elucidating on how the choice of trousers becomes a socio-political act of defiance beyond their common, everyday usage?

I'm thinking: "Greil Marcus with a hint more haberdashery"...

    3. Excellent!

I'll be expecting a signed copy of the three-sided double 10" in the hand-screenprinted gatefold sleeve as my prize.

I'd prefer the salmon coloured vinyl with the red, white and green swirls, but I'd totally understand if that was the über-rare UK fanclub-only release and I would be just as pleased getting the black 180g vinyl with the red, white and "chartreuse" labels.

(The ones with the individual band member's silhouettes on the label - *not* the gold foil ones stamped "I.A.C." in Times New Roman font.

I've already got that one pre-ordered from Belgium.)

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT CLIMB THE CHARTS IN TIME FOR THE QUEEN'S DIAMOND JUBILEE!!!

      I AM CHIMP! NOW & 4-EVER!!!

    4. Y'know Mr. Longy recently told me something along the lines of "We don't need our own hompeage - all our fans on your site."

      That made me laugh.

    1. Or perhaps they'll skip the difficult second release and go straight to the concept album
