XTC are one heavily bootlegged band, despite their brief tenure as a touring band. Therefore much thanks is owed to their HIGHLY dedicated fan-base for their preservation work.
Of this bootleg Discogs say, "Recorded live in Philadelphia, ostensibly 1979, actually recorded at Emerald City, Cherry Hill, NJ, April 17, 1981, from FM broadcast in 1981."
A note on programming: As I am trying to keep series a little shorter and the blog's focus a little less narrow, I'm going to spread out my final three or so XTC posts (including a real whopper!!) over the next few weeks. If that 's an irritant, a blessing or a non-issue please let me know, as this is an attempt to respond to my readers' comments.
What's your favourite XTC bootleg? Let us know in the COMMENTS section (which is where you'll find the link for the Fab Foursome in Philly CD).

Thank you, xtc are one of my favorites ever!
ReplyDeleteNot much to say except THANKS for all the XTC and other great music you take the time and effort to share with us all!
ReplyDeletejeffen, our generous host, asks: "What's your favorite XTC bootleg?"
ReplyDeleteMy two favorite live XTC bootlegs are: this one (tight performance and very good FM sound quality--you just have to crank up the bass using your EQ since there's practically no bass guitar coming through on this FM broadcast); and live at the Marconi Club, Sydney, Australia, July 20, 1979, Triple J FM *raw* broadcast.
This was XTC's first concert in Australia (i think!) and a VERY ENERGETIC performance on rented instruments. The SQ is very raw, and the version of this show i found online ran EXTREMELY slow pitchwise. I had to increase the speed/pitch by +6.5%!!! (using a minidisc deck with pitch control dial since i'm *old school* and don't mess with software-based music 'adjustments';)
Another good live FM broadcast is from Brussels, March 7, 1982: very good performance, but since this is towards the end of their gigging career it doesn't have quite the *manic* energy of the earlier shows. --dandor
another excellent post any xtc is superb and any time you put them up is alright with me thanks again
ReplyDeleteNO DOWNLOAD WITHOUT A COMMENT....

Thanks!! You've a great collection of music..almost as good as mine. But, Ive had some help by folks like you who share the rare stuff...Thank you!!! I was at this show! Emerald City was down the street and through the racetrack for me (17, living with mom and dad...with the fake id and a passion for the "new" music and spikey hair). This place hosted the best of everything at that time...Ramones, Undertones, Joan Jett, Stranglers, Gang of Four, the list could go on forever...and who didnt make it to emerald city were just across the bridge at places like omnis...great stuff!
ReplyDeletemerci beaucoup por l'xtc.
ReplyDeleteThanx so much!
ReplyDeleteI was also at this show. It was one of the most enjoyable concerts I have ever seen. Made all the better by the fact that Fingerprintz, a criminally forgotten band of that era, was the opening act that night.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the great XTC comments
ReplyDeleteI do have at least one more very cool XTC rarity to teat you all with.
I would probably say London, September 17, 1979.
ReplyDeleteIts version of "Are You Receiving Me" is the very definition of XTC live; it's kinetic.
In other words, so forceful that you continue to move even after the song ends!
Thanks for posting - I was working at an area record store (yes, still records) at this time and we did an in-store with the band that afternoon. Andy mentions it during the show. It was awkward, they obviously did not relish the "whoring" side of selling records and not surprised they stopped touring. Think I still have my signed copy of Black Sea. But was completely pooped after the event and didn't make it cross the river to NJ for the show. Did tape it from the FM and still have cassette somewhere. But Emerald City was great. My fondest memory is Capt Beefheart on his last tour there.
