The Bangles: Concert for MS (1986)

Y'know The Bangles hits (other that crap pap of the Dianne Warren-penned "Eternal Flame") lit up the radio in a pretty dark era and besides writing strong originals, they also showed pretty discerning taste in covers - Kimberly Rew, Prince, Alex Chilton and Paul Simon.

  2. The Bangles stuff I *really liked* the most was the stuff written by the band -- especially everything on "Different Light" that wasn't provided by an outside song writer.

In a different world, "The Real World", "Hero Takes A Fall", "In A Different Light" and "Let It Go" would have been the monster hits and not "Walk Like An Egyptian" and "Manic Monday".

  4. I loved the Bangles when they were a surf band. The first album began to take them away from that but it wasn't bad. Unfortunately their handlers turned them into soulless pin-ups.

  5. Love The Bangles. The first two albums are deathless. After that, more of a mixed bag. That said, Susannah Hoffs could sing her shopping list and I would listen transfixed. My seven-year old daughter loves them, and her other fave is Nick Lowe (the early stuff), so you know she's got good taste...

I loved their originals too but they did some stellar covers as well.

  8. I just discovered them you could say & am kind of infatuated. I remember having a crush on Su when I was like 11 yrs old but then I forgot! whenever I hear their popular songs I just pictured somebody else & didn't even think Bangles! whenever I hear of the Bangles I just think "oh yeah there was a girl band called Bangles" don't even know what they did. recently I saw a picture of them & my heart did a double-take, WHO IS THAT !! now I am appreciating their music & story. sad what the business can do to a band.
