The Bodysnatchers: Demo + Peel Session (1980)

Two of the greatest frustrations of the 2-Tone era are the relative weakness of the band's flagship artists sophomore albums and the heart-breaking loss of potential in The Bodysnatchers. Based on the two singles, one radio session, one demo and one full of live performance left behind, an album by these seven London rude girls album would've been a smash!

What we have here is the band's demo and their lone Peel Session, sound quality varies but with this band, you treasure whatever you can find. And just because it's is so damn joyous, here's "Do the Rocksteady" again:

When the band broke up Rhoda Dakar joined Jerry Dammers in The Special AKA and some of the others formed the Belle Stars. To this day, there's never been an anthology of these rude girls and that is undeniably frustrating.

Leave us a comment about The Bodysnatchers, if you'd be so kind.

Speaking of comments, Demo + Peel Session link is in the comments.

Since you can't (yet!) support the band, here's where to go to learn more:

2-Tone Info
(Excellent history)

MySpace (Great photos!)

MRML (Dance Craze! with live Bodysnatchers!)

Marco on the Bass (2-Tone historian par excellence)

Authentic Ska
(Live at Folkstone, 1980)

  4. Thanks for this! I only had the live tracks from Dance Craze. Love the Belle Stars and thought it was extra cool that Rhoda guested on the newest Madness Lp too!
