While we're on the subject of Nardwuar the Human Serviette (more here) let's check out another interview, another song from his his band and another out-of-print compilation of his favourite bands:
1. The video is for "Gassy Jack", a history lesson, a protest song and a showcase for Nardwuar's Vindicator costume:
2. The interview is with Gwar and that's all I'm gonna say about it:
3. The album is Teenage Zit Rock Angst and it's another cornucopia of garage-punk goofiness, including The New Bomb Turks, Teengenerate, Eric's Trip and the cuddlecore genius of CUB!!
Teenage Zit Rock Angst L.P.
Go visit Nardwuar here!
I've been watching a bunch of these interviews since the last post. The GWAR one is most ridiculous I dont understand any of the hate people could have towards him. He is annoying but thats his character and hes a really nice guy. Another nice one like the NERD interview was one where he pulled out two obscure Swedish punk 7"s by the parents of the person he was interviewing.
ReplyDeleteBeing a default "left-coaster", I can tell you there was indeed once a time of too much Nardwuar...
ReplyDeleteIn the early 1990's, he was a DJ for CiTR (the University of British Columbia Student Union radio station), and a columnist for the Discorder (the University of British Columbia Student Union radio station's mostly music newspaper), but would call in on other local and competitor's radio shows asking questions and requesting stuff as well as doing the video-interview thing on Muchmusic. He was everywhere, at just about any gig I went to, and had some of the worst breath and body odor I have ever had the misfortune to smell.
That said, he also made me some copies of the fine Vancouver(ish) scene compilations: Undergrowth '84 and '85 after I somehow lost mine, so I think he is a pretty good guy with an amazing drive for minutia, who just makes horrible music and puts it out on 8-track.

ReplyDeleteI'd like to see that other interview you mention. And yeah Nardwuar is a nice guy because as an interviewer he's never mean-spirited but bio's comment below is a fair point.

Yeah I was in Vancouver around that time (working at A + B sound!) and I remember being irritated by him (his name just oozed teenage-try-to-be-weirdness and the Evaporators did not begin well) but it's true that he's grown on me on all fronts over the years.
it's possible reupload this comp and the 3 volumes of the series It Came From Canada ?
