Chick-Fill-o Nuts

If you cozy up to the power of the state to legally deny equal rights to a persecuted minority based on a strictly literal interpretation of the Old Testament, you're not a Christian, you're a Pharisee*.

* I use 'Pharisee' in the sense that it is used in the Christan tradition and not in its strictly historical sense.

  1. i bought the chicken waiting about 45 minutes for it. the owner does not discriminate against anyone, he serves, hires, and loves everyone. why is he a criminal for speaking his opinion? the constitution allows everyone to have the right to free speech. too bad the other side cannot see it for that. i have to listen to the other sides opinion more than i want to but i am not ticked off about it, you can say what you want. and in either case, if you do not like what you hear then change the channel.

    1. He is not being accused of a crime. He is, however, actively working to deny a minority its civil liberties.

Imagine Jesus working to persecute a marginalized minority. Come to think of it imagine Jesus saying a word about homosexuality one way or the other.

  2. Persecuted??? Give me a break. This isn't Nazi Germany.

Gays are overly entitled if anything.

  3. "and in either case, if you do not like what you hear then change the channel."

This is a variant of the old; "-If youve got nothing positive to add you might as well shut up"

They are both regurgitated by people who do not want democracy to come rear it's ugly head...

@adorno: what happened to equal righs for all?

@all "christians": Ask yourself, what would Jesus do? (and should you not want to follow His example please realise that you really belong to some other religion.)

  4. the gays always throw the word bigot around. maybe they should look in the mirror. "a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially: one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial/ethnic/religious group) with hatred and intolerance." basically anyone different than you.

  5. the gays should look up this one too:

    per·se·cute/ˈpərsəˌkyo͞ot/
    Verb:
Subject (someone) to hostility and ill-treatment, esp. because of their race or political or religious beliefs.
    Harass or annoy (someone) persistently.

    .

    1. Okay, Unknown it's time for your WTF!
These definitions do not help your case in the slightest.
In fact your definition of the word 'bigot' could not better describe the active, willful attempt to limit he civil rights of a marginalized group.
"one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial/ethnic/religious group) with hatred and intolerance."
I'm sure it's fun to play the victim but it's absolutely indefensible in this case.

  6. Well, I won't be visiting this site any more. I used to come here looking for new and interesting music, and now I get a lecture on politics and religion. Good bye and good riddance!

    1. You have every right to leave and never return, if a one-sentence post about intolerance bothers you that much.

By the way I've written 1,234 posts on this blog. Eleven of them have been about politics - just sayin'.

  7. Christians (I'm not one) are generally more charitable than the secular crowd

Marriage is not a civil right-"marriage equality" is nonsense.

    1. When the charity is a form of proselytizing, sure.

      civil rights (noun pl)
: the nonpolitical rights of a citizen; especially : the rights of personal liberty...
      That position is untenable.

  10. Homophobes really are a bunch of cocksuckers. (You see what I did there)?

You would have thought that people who believe that their prophet was persecuted and ultimately killed by an oppressive regime would be a little more tolerant and unwilling to do the same. But no, let's not learn anything from the two thousand years since that all happened, let's just keep hating. Oh, and let's not mention all the christian priests that have been getting away with molesting children while the church covers it up.

Fucking cunts! Which of course is presumably what "the gays" should be made to do!!!

  11. It is with great trepidation that I weigh in on this discussion. Free speech is rarely free of cost. Being possessed with the right to free speech does not mean you are immune from criticism. If you do not wish to be criticized then never speak your mind.
Whether if you hold a belief as a tenant of faith or an ethical principal then be prepared to pay a price for it. The owner of the Chik-fill-a does not have to agree with gay marriage; no one must agree with something they feel wrong. This fact alone does not make him a bigot. Any actions that he may take as a result of this belief, however, could open him up to the accusation of being a bigot. I do not know if he is a bigot or homophobe and I do not care. His beliefs are not going to make me want to buy his product and more or less.
For those who are outraged by what he believes, remember he has the right to believe anything he wants, regardless of how objectionable or regressive it may be. Secondly, rather than engaging in pointless and puerile name-calling that holds no hope of resolution do something worthwhile spend your money according to your beliefs.
Asininely, calling each other bigots or pathetically making Nazi references solves nothing and frankly reduces what could be a productive discussion to merely and exercise in the stupidity of the lower common denominator.

    1. Always love a thoughtful comment, even ones where I'm not in full agreement.
I really appreciate with how you've specified that freedom of speech does not mean freedom from criticism and freedom from reactions.
However, I fear you're getting into some false equivalencies when you say "Asininely, calling each other bigots or pathetically making Nazi references solves nothing".
If Chick-Fill-A said we're going to pour our profits into fighting mixed-race marriages would a productive conversation really be possible? Would not the majority say that that's just bigotry and not not a just part of civic dialogue?
Thanks for reading and for commenting.

  12. Freedom of speech is a guaranteed right that Obama and his liberal bobbleheads are trying to erase. Along with the 2nd Amendment which guarantees the right to bear arms. Obama also wants to control the internet, which would put you out of business almost immediately. You ought to think twice before criticizing the use of our basic rights because under the Obamunists they will be gone before you know it. Rado

  13. There aint no Chic Fil A in my town it buirned down, but one time I went to one in LA....there was this Russian chick working there and she hardly spoke any English at all....I asked if I could see some breasts, so she unbuttons her top and flashes me! Wow.....So she asks if there'll be anything else? Getting ready to ask about thighs when a meteorite came out of nowhere and destroyed the store, burying the Russian chick under a pile of rubble. I said, well, NOTHING is worth all of this so I went to Long John Silvers and had fish. And even THEY were out of Malt Vinegar, I just chalked it up to sometimes it just aint your day. But I did get to see the Russian chicks boobs.

  14. Hey Jeffen

Most people who 'hate' gays and are 'against' same sex marriage are probably hiding homosexual feelings that lurk deep inside.

Always reminds me of the deeply religious people who 'fornicate' and feel 'GUILTY' but they keep on fornicating!

I am not a fan of 'organised' religion. My paternal grandparents left Scotland around 1920 because they were of a different religion(Catholic vs Protestant) hence could not get married. They left and got married in Davenport,Iowa on their way to Western Canada.

I have had many gay coworkers and had a gay supervisor when I worked at a major courier company in Vancouver.Just folks ... some nice ... some not so nice.My present BC MLA is gay and the electorate does not give a damn ... as long as he represents his constituents.

As far as marriage ... good luck ... way too many heterosexual marriages fail.

Not familiar with Chick Fil A but the owner can have his opinion. What was that chicken place in Breaking Bad?

'Freedom Of Speech' is a fantasy.Gee, even twitter closed a journalist's account(since reopened) because of their association with NBC.The right who control the corporate press always pretend to be the victim.A pathetic joke.

And Jeffen ... I like how you can draw 'them' out from their CAVES!!!!

    Cheers

    Doug

And as for drawing them out of their caves, I too think it's good because even if we don't convince those stone-age-minded types, perhaps those unsure will see whose perched beside them on the 'ole white picket fence and reconsider.
