Green Day: Let Yourself Go!, 2012
So I've been expecing a train-wrecking, shark-jumping, Sandanista-besting nightmare to arise from the forthcoming Green Day three-album [!] onslaught but this song, "Let Yourself Go!" is fucking amazing!

After the terrible album art and the first single, "Oh Love", I was pretty worried. This song gives me new hope for these albums though.
ReplyDeleteYeah "Oh Love" was okay for us die-hards but it seemed a little weak.
DeleteThe Atlantic Ocean is a very powerful thing. Sometimes when music comes across it to England I think the water gets in somehow, because Green Day (and virtually all of their ilk) just sound like watered down shit to my ears... Fifteen years ago I used to refer to this stuff as "kiddy punk", but they've clearly grown up as I see that TV talent shows are now part of their domain... I rest my case.
ReplyDeleteHarsh!
DeleteI know Green Day never worked for a lot of poeple and I can respect that.
well i likes green day and i don't care who knows it, the talent judge thing, didn't happen, not listening *la la la la la la*

Yeah like the musical, The Voice thing doesn't really bug me.
DeleteYou bitched about Mudhoney? "You actually own a Green Day album"??? Kinda dweeby, if ya ask me?
ReplyDeleteI like hooks. Mudhoney did not do hooks.
DeleteHooks? That's sub-jective?
ReplyDeleteYou "Power Pop Turd"!
Can you decide if you're a troll or not?
DeleteIn an intelligent conversation no one should feel the need to insult the other person.
The quality of hooks may be somewhat subjective but the presence of "a musical or lyrical phrase that stands out and is easily remembered" is a little more objective.
Ask Mark Arm, who I've always respected and I'm sure loathes Green Day, whose songs have more hooks.
Respectfully,
Jeffen
Troll? I guess? Even though I don't really speak internet jargon. People have accused you of the very same thing. The term "Power Pop Turd" is a smart ass reference to a punk rock song. I would expect a Green Day fan not to get. You're the one who bagged on Mud Honey in the first place! So please, spare me the indignant Mr. Sensitive crap!
ReplyDeleteA troll is someone who isn't talking to communicate but just to get a rise out of someone else.
DeleteI've worked very hard to make sure this blog is a place where people CAN communicate intelligently.
While I'm sure I've made my share of churlish remarks in my posts, I do not insult my visitors. Notice how Styreneboy tore into Green Day above and I didn't respond by insulting him? That's because he was communicating his thoughts on the band and not flinging random insults at me personally.
Y'see 'sensitive' is when you're so touchy you can't bear to see somebody say a bad word about something you enjoy (say, like Mudhhoney) without lashing out. Trying to keep a conversation about music from descending into personal attacks is just a part of common decency.
I can't wait for these albums honestly. Fuck really anyone else's opinion on what I should like. Green day still do their own thing. Still have stance on real issues and stick up for what they think is right. And Mudhoney is a good band. lol
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on all of that (well maybe not the Mudhoney part ;)
