The Undertones: Radio Sessions (1978-1982)

Y'know of the millions of things I'm glad John Peel did before his untimely passing, helping make this absolutely compelling documentary about The Undertones (more here) was one of the top ones. By laying out an affecting story about kids, guitars and adversity, the film makes the case for the power of rock n' roll better than almost any other rock doc. Do not miss it!

Parts 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8

What we have here is the Undertons "complete" BBC sessions, which includes a lot of things that you'd expect alongside rare versions of Gary Glitter's glam-pop hit "Rock n' Roll" and Michael and the Messengers garage-rock Nugget "Just Like Romeo and Juliet".

Pretty much anytime I'm at a large family event I get a desperate urge to sing "My Perfect Cousin".

  4. Totally Fuzzy Rules (excerpt)

    l. NO VIDEOS: we have made substantial investments in time and money trying to build up our own video site, we don't compete with you by supplying downloads to our visitors, so we would appreciate it if you don't try to compete with us either.
NO VIDEOS means not for download, and not on youtube or elsewhere. Our visitors have been with us for years and they expect downloads on this blog. That is the first rule: only blogs with downloads.

If I have to allow everybody posting youtube videos then our blog will be watered down to a spam blog and become totally useless to our visitors.

Therefore : One rule for all: NO VIDEOS.

You're welcome to do on your own blog what you want of course, that's none of my business, but don't post is as updates at totally fuzzy.

    Hope this clarifies our position.

  5. Saw them live a couple of times the last few years, and they're still great. I've got this cd myself: great collection. A couple of these sessions are added as bonus tracks on the latest reissues from Salvo Records: I recommend all of them. No home should be without them.

  13. I can still remember listening to the late, great & much-missed Peel & hearing those guitar stabs & driving drumbeats of Here Comes the Summer come at me. What a fab introduction to The Undertones! Thanks for the chance to hear these sessions again.
