The Stranglers: Live at the Roundhouse (1977)

(Images from the semi-inactive-but still-missed Punks on Postcards)

For all my Stranglers commenters (there's nothing like the hum of feedback!) here's two sets from fabled venue The Roundhouse, in the year 1977. That's the calendar year in which the band put out BOTH Rattus Norevegicus and No More Heroes, leading to the inevitable question, was 1977 the year we hit peak Stranglers? Let us know, down below...

Was '77 the best year in Stranglers' history? Let us know in the comments!

Oh yeah the question of the day remains: What was the best year in Stranglers history?

  2. I am not of the best year, but their material from the 1970s is my favorite.

  3. jeffen, this really is good stuff, what is the source? ...not to worry it sounds great. 1977 was maybe not their best year as my personal favorite is still Black and White, yes when they started to experiment and look for new ways and new sounds. Though we must not forget that without 1977 and us all burning our Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Yes albums (even Cheapo Cheapos wouldn't buy them anymore) modern music would not be the way it is. The late 70's and early eighties were indeed very exciting and stimulating times for a young man to be in London.

  5. Didn't one or more of the Roundhouse shows form the basis for material for Live X Cert? At least some of it anyway. Great job, d/ling it now. I'd say 1978 was their prime year, as they had the first two ace records under their belts, then they put out the brilliant Black and White. The Raven was good too, but the decline had started by then.

  9. Right, I was there at the Roundhouse in 1977 and I have to tell you, it was amazing! But the bands best year is this year. And next year it will be next year. The fact that 40 years on from when they begun, and having seen them again this year, they still sound amazing, just shows that they are one of the best bands ever! After Hugh left it got very dodgy, but Baz is fantastic and has something Hugh never had, a love for the fans. They know their stuff, they know the fans and they deliver year after year. Go and see them and you should agree.
