TV Smith: War Fever (1983)
Following the break-up of his Explorers (more HERE), TV Smith (more HERE), formerly of The Adverts (more HERE), began his first foray into solo work. Smith's solo debut, the album Channel 5, immediately sunk below the radar but you'll have to buy the CD re-issue to read the whole laugh-about-it-now-but-at-the-time-it-was-terrible story. Here, as small sampler is a vinyl rip of the lead-off single, "War Fever", which shows Smith (backed by Tim Renwick and Tim Cross) excoriating those who would lead us to slaughter with undiminished fire and a cracking tune.

Hi Jeffen
ReplyDeleteAnother great single from TV with a wonderful b side - and yes a very sad tale indeed concerning the Channel 5 album. The man hasn't had much luck with record labels over the years - especially in the early 80s.
Looking forward to the Cheap session. This is shaping up to be another of your great series - I thought you would never top the Rezillos/Revillos postings but at this rate ...
Thanks again and all the best - Ivan
You know the thing that would make this series complete would be if you suddenly came up with the legendary Sleaze tape... I won't hold my breath though. Keep up the good work Jeff.
ReplyDeleteanything more rarities you can squeeze out of tv smith and the adverts will be most welcome

ReplyDeleteFirst ... bring on more T.V. Smith.
Sleaze ... now that would be 'VERY GOOD'.
Just popped the OZit version of 'Channel 5' into the stereo.Dave Thompson writes notes for this album as he did for the T.V.Smith's Explorers OZit release.
There are the early singles by The Adverts.
Thanks as always.
Doug
P.S. My CD of 'Lucky ...' is in the post from the UK.
